Abstract
1532956 Analogue to digital conversion GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 24 Oct 1975 [29 Oct 1974] 46751/74 Heading H3H In an a#d converter a capacitor is charged by the input analogue for a period dependent upon the input magnitude, the capacitor discharge time producing part of a pulse group representing the input magnitude. An input analogue is rectified at 4, a polarity signal produced at output S, and a voltage proportional to the input sampled and held in store 6. The sample is fed to capacitor 12 of integrator 13 for one clock period, the capacitor then discharged to reference level 17. Dependent on that discharge time a range signal is produced, outputted at 9, which controls the period during which the sample is again fed to the capacitor. The discharge time of the second phase is counted at 18 and presented in 4 digit form at output 10. In case of a wrongly ascribed second presentation time means are provided for altering the range signal at 9 so the output 10 is always in 4 digit form.
