Abstract

1404768 Ramp generators BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 5 Dec 1972 [8 Dec 1971] 57074/71 Heading H3P [Also in Division G4] A synthesized stepped analogue waveform is smoothed by generating a substantially sawtooth waveform of the same frequency as and in phase with the stepped waveform and with each cycle having the same height and direction as the corresponding step, so that the tooth slope is positive for each upward step and negative for each downward step, and summing the two waveforms. The stepped waveform is generated from an 8 digit ordinater stored in memory 10 and clocked out in parallel in the desired sequence by clocked counter 12. The parallel data passes via registers 13 and 14 to digital to analogue converter 17 from which the stepped waveform emerges. Register 14 delays the output by one clock period and the signals from each side of it (representing successive ordinates are added at 15 after one has been inverted. The difference corresponds to a step height and is applied to DIA converter 18 which is also supplied with a ramp voltage at the clock frequency. The converter output is a sawtooth voltage of each peak having a height corresponding to the difference signal and of polarity corresponding to that of the digital signal. This sawtooth waveform is added to the step waveform in operational amplifier 20.
