Abstract

1532630 Starter motor drive LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 21 Nov 1975 [7 Dec 1974] 53039/74 Heading F1K An electric starter motor pinion assembly comprises a pinion 13 moveable along the motor shaft 11 by a nut 22 made fast to the pinion by a sleeve 23 and mounted on a helically threaded sleeve 17 splined to the shaft, a dust-cover 19 surrounds the sleeve 23 to ensure that throughout the range of movement of the pinion 13 at least a portion of the sleeve 23 remains within the cover 19 preventing exposure of the helical screw thread. As shown, the nut moves against a light spring 24 abutting a member 16, a heavy spring 15 acting to compress a flange 21 of the cover 19, a washer 18 and the sleeve 17 also against the member 16.
