Abstract

1532485 Measuring lens surface PILKINGTON P E Ltd 29 March 1977 [9 April 1976} 14467/76 Heading G1M [Also in Division G2] A method of testing the optical surface 2 of an optical element 1 e.g. a lens, comprises locating the surface 1 in closely spaced relationship with the test surface 3 of a test plate 4, feeding air through a bore 5 in the test plate to develop an air cushion between the lenses, which acts to remove dust particles and allow positioning, then stopping the fluid supply and carrying out a matching test, e.g. measuring Newtons rings. A liquid may be used instead of air. The fluid may be fed through the central hole of an annular optical element, Fig. 2 (not shown).
