Abstract

1532236 Feeding sheets to presses METAL BOX Ltd 12 July 1976 [18 July 1975] 30170/75 Heading B3W [Also in Division B8] Sheets 13, e.g. of metal, having a profiled trailing edge 16 are conveyed by a main pusher element having a profile matched to that of the sheet so as to prevent lateral movement thereof, the sheet also being steadied during conveyance to prevent slewing by means of the main pusher element and an auxiliary pusher element acting in unison. As described the sheet has a scrolled trailing edge and the main pushers, e.g. 39, are of truncated wedge shape to co-operate with recess 17 in the edge. Auxiliary pushers 62 engage the sheet towards a side thereof. The pushers are pivotally mounted on carrier bars and spring biased towards the sheet, the bars being reciprocated by cams 68, 69 driven from press 10. There are preferably two sets of main pushers carried on front and rear carrier bars 33, 34, reciprocated in unison. The spacing of the pushers, which is equivalent to the reciprocating stroke of the carrier bar, is greater on the rear bar than in the front bar. Similarly there are front and rear carrier bars 35, 36 for the auxiliary pushers. The auxiliary pusher may have a lip (63) (Fig. 7, not shown) for restraining the sheet vertically. Additionally or alternatively bars 73 may be provided as top feed guides. The foremost pushers are adapted for feeding the sheet to a blanking and cupping press 10 and the rearmost pushers are adapted for picking up the sheets as they are fed from rollers 32 (Figs. 3 to 6, not shown).
