Abstract
1532165 Flame monitor FORNEY INTERNATIONAL Inc 8 June 1977 23935/77 Heading G1A A flame monitor for detecting the disappearance of a flame 12a (or 12b) of a movable burner 15a (or 15b), comprises a flexible tube 16 coupling a lens housing, connected to the burner and containing a quartz lens, to a detector, mounted outside the furnace, the tube housing an optical fibre bundle of unclad quartz fibres which conducts light from the flame via the lens to the detector. The lens is held in place within a detent in a bore in the housing by an end-piece, which screws into the end of the housing, Fig. 3 (not shown) and is provided with openings for gases to prevent accumulation of material on the lens. Dimensions for the fibre which can conduct ultraviolet, visible and infrared, are given. The lens may filter out certain wavelengths e.g. all but infrared.
