1532050 Welding by pressure; altering molecular structure INST GIDRODINAMIKI SIBIR OTDEL AKAD NAUK SSSR 12 Feb 1977 05950/77 Headings B3R and B3V An installation for carrying out explosion techniques to effect welding, strengthening or stress relieving operates in the following manner:- (i) a workpiece 4 is clamped to a platform 5 which at one end is articulatedly connected to a movable part 10 of a chamber 1 and at the other end is supported by rollers 13 on guides 14 in the stationary part 7 of the chamber; (ii) an explosive charge 3 is placed on the workpiece; (iii) the movable part 7 and hence the platform 5 are advanced by a trolley 11 to close the chamber 1, the chamber parts 7, 10 being locked together by a device 16; (iv) lift mechanisms lower the platform 5 on to a work table 2 during which lowering a stop on the platform engages a retainer 21; (v) the explosive charge 3 is detonated; and (vi) the explosive gases are flushed out by the introduction of air at the valve 18.
