1531829 Toothed gearing CAM GEARS Ltd 18 July 1977 [6 Aug 1976] 32902/76 Heading F2Q In a steering gear of the kind in which a push rod 4 is adapted to be displaced longitudinally on rotation of a nut 2 through a recirculating ball mechanism 8, the external surface of the nut 2 is in the form of a helical involute gear 10 which meshes in side-by-side relationship with a further helical involute gear 11 carried by an input shaft 12. The helical gears 10, 11 constitute a spiral gear system. The helical gear 11 may be of axially tapered configuration to facilitate adjustment for correct meshing.
