Abstract

153,154. Caterpillar Tractors, Ltd., (Holt Manufacturing Co.). Oct. 6, 1919. Endless-track vehicles.-The idlers are adjusted to tension the tracks by means of a spring device which is first compressed and then, the slidable bearings for the idler having been freed, automatically forces the idler forwardly, the bearings being afterwards locked in their adjusted position. The idler bearings 16 are mounted on a fork 17 and are normally bolted to the truck frame 11. The stem 18 of the fork is surrounded by a screwed sleeve 21 abutting against a disk 22 bearing against a spring 24 enclosed in a casing 23. The spring is put under compression by traversing the sleeve 21 or by a screw 26 at the rear of the casing, and, when the bolts 28 are released, forces the idler bearings forwardly when the bolts are again tightened.
