Abstract

1531028 Dispensers LA REDOUTE 19 May 1976 [11 March 1976] 20772/76 Heading B8U Articles are stored in compartments of the device described and can be retrieved by a customer when required. The compartments are formed in modules 2 which are attached to endless chains or belts 4, 5 driven by a motor 12 so that the modules are driven in a closed path. Each module 2 comprises compartments (2a- 2e) disposed at three levels, Fig. 2 (not shown), and the exterior of the device comprises three doors 14a-14c disposed respectively at the three levels for removing an article from a compartment at each level. Located on the rear of each module 2 are coding marks 18a-18e, each corresponding to one compartment of the module 2, which pass by a reading device 20, e.g. a magnetic reading device, during movement of the conveyer. When an article is placed in a compartment a datum reference such as a customer account number is introduced into a memory of a control unit (42) by means of a keyboard (51), Fig. 4 (not shown), whereby that datum reference is associated with the coding number of the coding mark 18 associated with that particular compartment. Later, when the customer wishes to retrieve the same article, he inserts a card (21), such as a magnetic card, bearing his account number into the device, so that the card (21) is read by a reader (22) in operative association with the control unit (42). A comparison is made in the latter between the number on the card (21) and the number associated with the coding marks 18 of the various filled compartments, and if there is correspondence the relevant compartment is brought along by the conveyer 4, 5 to the associated one of the doors 14a-14c. The conveyer then stops and the associated door is unlocked and opened to permit the removal of the article.
