Abstract

1531001 Valves GIRLING Ltd 13 Jan 1976 [17 March 1975] 11056/75 Heading F2V A pressure control valve for a vehicle braking system, comprises an annular valve member 18, Fig. 1, which provides a seating for the valve head 16 of a pressure-responsive axially-movable member 15, and has a flexible peripheral lip 19 which normally sealingly contacts the wall of bore 11. The main flow between inlet 12 and outlet 13 is controlled by movement of the head 16 whereas reverse flow from the outlet to the inlet is controlled by flexure of lip 19. The member 18 is positively retained, e.g. by an aluminium or plastics element 21, to prevent distortion of the member 18 due to its engagement by the valve head. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the retaining element (21) is an elongated sleeve sealingly mounted in the bore fixed by a circlip (32). Moreover, the axiallymovable member (15) is biased open by a pivoted arm (30) in dependence on vehicle loading. The retaining element may directly engage the flexible peripheral lip.
