Abstract
1530270 Bearing; sealing fluid supports 2 Dec 1975 [27 Dec 1974 23 June 1975 14 Nov 1975] 49424/75 Headings F2A and F2S A tiltable bearing for bridges comprises an upper support member 1, Fig. 1, on a P.T.F.E. sliding plate 2 which rests on a pressure cushion 3 and a lower support member 8 and a casing ring 6, wherein the sliding plate 2 is supported by an insert 4 which is harder than the pressure cushion 3 and which is partly embedded in the cushion 3 and which positively engages, by means of a lug 11, in a groove 12 on the internal circumference of casing ring 6. A seal, which may be in the form of a wire coil 9, is embedded in the cushion 3 to seal the gap 7 between casing ring 6 and support member 8. The insert may be in the form of a ring which projects from the adjacent edge of the casing ring and whose inner edge joins the edge of the sliding plate in a flush manner, or it may abut the sliding plate on the pressure-cushion side, or the insert may be a stiff plate, or it may be subsdivided into a plurality of laminae, 21, Fig. 3.
