Abstract

152,980. Davids, W. J. Oct. 18, 1919, [Convention date]. Gems, treating.-A holder for cast dops employed in grinding and polishing gems comprises a body a, normally fixed to the stock d of the grinding-machine by means of a spindle a<1>, and having a curved part of dovetail section to receive a bracket b. The bracket is angularly adjustable on the body a and is secured in the adjusted position by means of a binding-screw a<4> and a friction strip a<5>. In an extension of b<3> of the bracket is a hole with a conical part b<4> adapted to receive the dop housing c which is rotatably held in position by nuts c<5> and is maintained in the adjusted position by means of a spring-finger e the end e<1> of which is adapted to engage in notches d in the periphery of the housing; wear of the dophousing bearings is taken up by the nuts c<5> acting in conjunction with a conical part c<4> of the housing and the conical part b<4> of the hole in the extension b<3>. The dop is held in a recess c<3> in the housing by means of set-screws c<5>, and the gem is held by a finger inserted in a hole b<5> in the bracket and held there by a screw b<6>. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises the use of pointed setscrews c<5> which form indentations in the dop. The indentations serve to-locate the dop on reinsertion after removal for inspection of the gem. This subject-matter dces not appear in the Specification as accepted.
