1529552 Photocrosslinkable polymers HERCULES Inc 31 May 1977 23015/77 Headings C3A C3B and C3P Photocrosslinkable polymers comprise pendant -OCOCN 2 X groups where X is H, -COOR, -COCH 3 , -CN or Ar where Ar is phenyl optionally substituted by 1 to 3 -NO 2 , Cl, F, Br, C 1-8 alkyl or C 1-5 alkoxy substituents and R is C 1-18 alkyl, C 5-7 cycloalkyl, C 1-4 alkyl substituted C 5-7 cycloalkyl or Ar, and may be prepared by reacting hydroxyl-containing polymers with an acid chloride and diazotizing the product or by reacting such a polymer with the p-toluenesulphonyl hydrazone of a carboxylic acid chloride containing an α-carbonyl group in the presence of a strong base. The polymer may be a phenoxy resin, hydroxypropyl cellulose, saponified ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer or polyvinyl alcohol.
