Abstract

1529058 Liquid fuel burner N R WATSON and S J HODGKISS 8 Oct 1975 [30 Nov 1974] 51934/74 Heading F4T A liquid fuel burner 12 comprises a block 76, with a downwardly sloping face 78, on to which the fuel is supplied at 80, and an air or steam supply slot 88 in the block, adjacent the lower edge of face 78, and extending across a substantial part of the width of the face. The slot is formed between a base plate 84 and block 76 by a shim 86 and air or steam is supplied through a conduit 92. In operation, oil fuel and water are supplied to a mixing tank from tanks 14 and 16 respectively, via solenoid-operated valves 48, controlled by a liquid level sensor 50. A small quantity of wetting agent is supplied from a tank 20 and compressed air is passed from a pipe 58, through passages 62 in a hollow boss 60 so as to agitate the mixture 46. The latter passes to the sloping face 78 of the burner via a pipe 74 and a steady flame is produced by controlling the flow rates of the fluids. Main block 76 of the burner may be heated, to thus provide preheating of the mixture and air. Mixer 56 may be replaced by a paddle or propeller-type mixer and the fuel may consist of fuel oil, motor oil or diesel fuel, and the diluent may be water or waste sump oil.
