Abstract

1528849 Blowing stemmed glassware SAINT GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 6 Aug 1976 [8 Aug 1975] 32861/76 Heading C1M A glass article comprising a bowl and a foot separated by a stem is made by feeding a gob into a mould comprising two half shells, defining a principal cavity of a parison for the bowl and a cylindrical channel for the stem, and a separable bottom mould, defining with the lower parts of the half shells, a base cavity for the foot; applying a ring mould and a step flange to an opening of the mould; inserting a mandrel to form the stem, foot and a parison for the bowl; transferring the parison by the ring mould to a finishing mould comprising two half shells and a bottom; and blowing to form the article which is rotated by means of the ring mould and the bottom of the finishing mould which engage the top of the bowl and the foot respectively. The foot may be held engaged to the bottom mould by vacuum. The speeds of rotation may differ if a twisted stem is desired. The finishing mould may be lined with a substance containing a liquid which is vaporized during blowing (e.g. agglomerated cork).
