Abstract
922,133. Moulding glassware. SOC. ARTES Ltd. July 7, 1960 [July 10, 1959], No. 23757/60. Class 56. Stemmed glassware is made by placing a parison for the upper part, while still hot, in an inverted position on a rotating support and pouring molten glass into a rotating stem mould disposed above and in contact with the parison, the molten glass being subjected to pressure to apply the stem to the parison while suction is applied to an intermediate part of the mould. In the form shown, the parison 23 is carried in a holder 8 carried in a head 7 rotatable on a shaft 2 carried in bearings 3, 4 on a base 1, the rotation being effected by a belt 6 through a pulley 5. The stem mould is in two parts 12 carried on arms 11, 11a pivoted at 10, 10a to flanges 9 projecting from the head 7. The stem mould may be opened by lifting, by a cam 19, a ring 18 surrounding the head 7 and carrying pivots 17 for links 16 also pivoted at 15 to lugs 14 projecting from the arms 11, 11a. The foot mould 13 is in separate parts supported directly from the base 1. After the parison is placed in position the stem and foot moulds are closed and a quantity of glass 24 fed in. Suction is applied through passages 22 extending through the parts of the stem mould, the arms 11, 11a, the head 7 and the shaft 2. The parts carried on the shaft 2 are meanwhile rotated. The formation of the foot is assisted by a plunger 21 which also rotates.
