1528354 Gas/liquid filters IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 10 Nov 1975 [18 Nov 1974 19 Nov 1974 8 Jan 1975] 49736/74 50001/74 and 764/75 Headings B1D and BIT [Also in Divisions B5 Cl and Fl] A laminated fibrous structure comprises an assembly of inorganic fibres interposed between and bonded to two unitary substrates 14, 15 the assembly of fibres comprising a plurality of substantially parallel laminae 16, each of the laminae comprising resin-free fibres and being oriented in a plane substantially normal to the surface 17 of at least one substrate. The substrate may be of board, paper, woven or non-woven textile, foil or plate, preferably formed of refractory fibres e.g. alumina, zirconia or aluminosilicate optionally bonded or of sheet form aluminium or steel, specified fibres for the laminae being of glass, alumina-silicate, silica, alumina and zirconia. Bonding may be effected using a ceramic cement, e.g. an alumino-silicate, silica sol, alumina sol, zirconia sol, aluminium phosphate, fine clay cement or rubber latex. Figs. 3 to 8 (not shown) illustrate use of the structures to filter liquid or gas, particularly I.C. engine exhaust gas.
