Abstract

' Engaged ' and like indicators.-The number and position of vacant folding- up seats in places of entertainment &c. are shown automatically by lighted electric lamps on an indicator d. A switch a shown in detail in Fig. 4 is fitted to the part of the chair frame b<1> that supports the movable seat b, and comprises contacts a<1>, a<2>, a<4> connected to leads 1<a>, 3<a>, 4<a>, and a projecting member a<3> working against a spring c. When the seat is vacant these contacts simultaneously complete two lamp circuits, one indicating the number of the chair and the other the letter of the row in which it is situated. The weight of a person occupying the chair breaks the contact and extinguishes the lamps. Current is supplied by a feed-wire 2<a>, through the contacts a<1>, a<2>, a<4> to the letter and number lamps and thence to earth. The lamps may be arranged all on one indicator board as shown in Fig. 1 or a separate board may be placed at the end of each row, above or below the end chair.
