Abstract
1527940 Removing metallic contaminants from bituminous materials COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 1 Nov 1977 [9 Nov 1976] 46552/76 Heading C5E Bituminous material is formed into a dispersion with a solution containing a complexing agent for the metallic contaminant and the bituminous material of reduced metal content is thereafter separated from the solution containing dissolved complex of the metal. The complexing agent can be ammonia, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide or ethylene diamine and can be used in aqueous solution. The process can be used to remove zinc from coal tar pitch or coal tar to be used to produce pitch binder for carbon electrodes.
