Abstract

1527767 Flexible coupling SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 24 Nov 1975 [26 Nov 1974 2 June 1975] 48150/75 Headings F2G and F2P Rigid flange portions 13, 14 are bonded to a flexible wall 7, 8 of a hose section at a frustoconical interface 21, and sandwich an outwardly turned reinforcing layer 1 to define a flange coupling. Preferably the flexible wall is formed of a vulcanized rubber, reinforced by plies 2, 4, 5, 6 of braided steel wire gauze; extra plies 3, 25 being incorporated along the axial, portion between the flange and sets of concentric rings 11, 12 spaced along the reinforcing layer and mechanically coupled thereto. Crackarresting layers 9, 10 of corrugated steel wire gauze, or a fabric of, e.g. rayon, nylon or cotton, may be incorporated beneath each flexible wall surface and fixed at respective ends to the flanges. A further embodiment differs in that rigid flange portion 14 is axially extended to surround the outer flexible wall surface giving reinforcement to the coupling flange.
