Abstract

1527613 Fibre-reinforced compositions VSES N-I INST PO ZASCHITE METAL OT KORROZ 13 Sept 1975 37711/75 Headings C3V and C3R A composition for the manufacture of non- woven materials of high thermal stability, and chemical and wear resistance comprises 2-8 wt. per cent carbon fibres; 1-4% synthetic polymeric fibrous material; 2-16 wt. per cent of pyrolytic carbide fibres; 1-8 wt. per cent of silicon or boron carbide: 1-2 wt. per cent of silicon or boron nitride; 6-13 wt. per cent of saturated and unsaturated fluorinated hydrocarbons with a heat resistance of 350-450‹ C.; 2-3 wt. per cent of thermosetting resins, 1-2 wt. per cent of a curing agent, a solvent making up the balance. The synthetic polymeric fibrous material may be, e.g. polytrifluoroethylene, polypropylene, modified polyvinyl alcohol, or poly(ethylene terephthalate). The fluorinated hydrocarbon may be a copolymer of hexafluoropropylene with vinylidene fluoride or tetrafluoroethylene and the thermosetting resin may be an epoxy resin, a phenol resin, furfural resin, polysiloxane resin, urea resin, or polyester, e.g. a modified furfuralacetone-phenolpentanediol resin, an acenaphthylene-phenol formaldehyde resin, aquo-emulsion phenol formaldehyde resin or an epoxy resin. The curing agent may be polyethylene polyamine, ditetrabutylphenol formaldehyde or sulphosalicylic acid.
