Abstract

Signal lanterns; lantern doors; reservoirs, attaching to lanterns.-A railway signal lamp is pro. vided at one side with outer and inner hinged or sliding doors 2, 3, the inner door being provided with a glazed flame - inspection aperture stepped to act as a flame gauge. The wick-winding spindle 7<a> passes through an aperture in the inner door, the passage of wind through the spindle aperture when the outer door is open being prevented by a disk 10 on a spring-pressed sleeve 9 mounted on a sleeve 8 fixed to the spindle 7a. The spindle 7a is held in position by a U-shaped wire body 12 which is slidable in guides 13 to permit the removal of the burner. The reflector 6<a> slides in guides 5a and is formed with a transverse opening 6b to enable the light to be seen from the back of the lamp. The oil-reservoir 4 is held in position by a spigot tube 1 and by the lower reflector guide 5<a>. Air for combustion is admitted through the perforated upper portion of the lamp case and, if necessary, an inlet at the bottom of the lamp case. The combustion products escape through a conical chimney 14 and a hinged perforated cap 15.
