Abstract
1527193 Liquid level indication BW CONTROLS Inc 13 Jan 1977 01339/77 Headings G1H and G1N A liquid level sensor comprises a float 34 moving up and down on a guide tube 32, a magnetic proximity switch 68 e.g. a reed switch in the tube, magnetic means 80 for closing the switch and maintaining it closed when the float passes the switch moving in one direction and means for opening the switch when the float passes the switch moving in the opposite direction. This arrangement avoids problems due to power failure and of redundancy which occur with latching relays necessary if the switch does not remain closed. Reed switches are latched by small bias magnets (88), Fig. 2 (not shown) or the reeds have a high residual magnetism and the float provides leading and trailing fields of opposite direction. A number of switches which may be normally on or off are arranged in the tube. Various arrangements of magnets are described.
