Abstract

1526992 Transfer printing SUBLISTATIC HOLDINGS SA 5 May 1976 [7 May 1975] 18489/76 Heading D1B A dry transfer carrier comprises a heatstable sheet carrying on at least one of its faces (1) a print containing either at least one cationic dye or derivative thereof as defined, which passes into the vapour state at a temperature of 160-220‹C under atmospheric pressure, or a mixture of at least one cationic dye and an alkaline substance which renders the dye heat-transferable in use and (2) a layer consisting of a blowing agent as defined having a good affinity for materials dyeable with cationic dyes and a vapourisation or sublimation point between 160-220‹C at atmospheric pressure and a film-forming non- transferable binder soluble in water or in volatile organic solvents and which retains the blowing agent below the transfer temperature on the carrier without modifying it but liberates it at the transfer temperature. A further dye which enhances the visibility of the print may also be present in the print (1), e.g. reactive, vat, metal complex and disperse dyes and pigments which may or may not be vapourisable. Layer (2) may also include an alkaline agent which renders the blueing agent heat-transferable in use. The blueing agent may cover the surface entirely whilst the print only partially covers the surface of the sheet, e.g. paper. Layers (1) and (2) may be applied in any order to the sheet. Substrates printed are polyesters polyamides, polyacrylonitrile, cotton, leather and wool.
