1526974 Multiplexing W VINTEN Ltd 5 Nov 1976 [11 Nov 1975] 46550/75 Heading H4M In a system in which a commentary spoken by a commentator 2 in a sub-office 1 is transmitted over telephone equipment 7 to a plurality of betting shops such as 9, the audio signal from the commentator is supplied to the equipment 7 over a combined AGC amplifier and low pass filter 5 (Fig. 2, not shown). The low pass filter effectively removes a relatively narrow frequency band, e.g. within the range of 2À9 to 3À1 kHz, from the audio spectrum and a control signal at 3 kHz, derived from a tone generator 6 operable by the commentator 2, is mixed with the signal from the filter prior to transmission. At the betting shop 9, the received signal is supplied over terminating equipment 10 to a Teletalk (RTM) receiver 11 (Fig. 3, not shown) and to a receiver 12 in the form of a copying machine, i.e. a betting termination device, in which a control relay is operated by the signal derived from the tone generator 6 whereby time information is imposed on a copy of the betting slip.
