Abstract

The cable television distribution system comprises principle cables, from a distribution centre to which connections are made. Transmission is by frequency multiplex and return information from the subscriber is via a separate return cable which permits a reduction in noise level. The distribution centre comprises transmission units including round and vision modulation units whose output frequencies are frequency transposed into bands. A multiplexer outputs these transmitted programmes onto principle cables through amplifiers. A digital information carrier is also provided by an interrogator. Return channels (54, 154, 254) pass through amplifiers (160-162) to memory circuits (163-165) into a calculator which classifies the information. A terminal connected to the calculator determines the programme choice depending on outputs from the interrogator.
