Abstract
1526926 Repairing laminates MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 26 Sept 1975 [27 Sept 1974 18 April 1975] 42117/74 and 16166/75 Heading C1M Crack damage (A) in a glass surface layer 12 of laminate 10 (which also includes plastics layer 16 and glass layer 14) is repaired by reducing the pressure over the damaged area, for at least 10 minutes, to not more than 0À5 mm. Hg absolute to remove air from the crack, applying to the surface a liquid resin composition B of sufficiently low viscosity to penetrate the crack and curable to form a transparent polymer whose refractive index is sufficiently close to that of the glass to give a visibly non-obvious repair, removing the reduced pressure and allowing the resin to penetrate the crack and cure, and removing excess polymer from the surface. The pressure may be reduced by use of vacuum cup D, the liquid resin composition B being introduced into polyethylene reservoir C by injection through injection point F. The liquid resin composition preferably comprises one or more epoxides and an amine curing agent.
