1526789 Esterified/aminated copolymers EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 26 Sept 1975 [17 Oct 1974] 10624/77 Divided out of 1526788 Heading C3P [Also in Division C5] Modified copolymers suitable as lubricant additives are obtained by (i) partially esterifying a C 8-24 α-olefin/ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydride copolymer with a C 10-18 aliphatic alcohol to produce a mixed mono- and di-ester product, and (ii) reacting the product of (i) with an amine having up to 60 carbon atoms and 4-8 nitrogen atoms. In examples, octadecene/maleic anhydride copolymer is reacted first with a C 12-18 alkanol mixture and then with the commercial amine known as "Polyamine 400".
