Abstract

1526760 Radiation detectors XEROX CORP 30 Dec 1975 53122/75 Heading G1A A radiation detector comprises an envelope 10, having surface means for diffusely reflecting radiation towards the interior, and having an elongate narrow window 11 for receiving radiation and at least one sensor 12 viewing the interior. For document reading Fig. 2, a second window 114 allows light (e.g. a laser beam) to pass straight through the envelope 110, and out by the first window 111 which also admits light reflected from the document 115. A plurality of sensors (212A, 212B), Fig. 3 (not shown) may be disposed symmetrically about a central region of the length of the first window (211). To improve uniformity of reception over the length of the window, the window may have a non- uniform width, or the sensor may be partly shielded from radiation entering the central region of the window. The envelope 10 may consist of, or be coated with, diffusely reflective material, the window 11 being formed as a slot; or the envelope may consist of transparent material coated inside or outside, the window being formed as a gap in the coating.
