Abstract

1526436 Extruding multi-glass body PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Oct 1975 [10 Oct 1974] 41001/75 Heading C1M A cylindrical solid preform consisting of at least two glass components is extruded, so that the initial and final relative positions and geometry of the components - is comparable, by displacing the extrusion die towards the preform. In the Fig. of the drawings the preform block 34 comprising a rod core 4 with sheath 3 is heated by induction coil 7 while the enclosure 1 is evacuated to avoid gas bubbles at the interface of rod and sheath and is then extruded by moving the die 5 towards the preform. After the vacuum treatment the enclosure may be filled with a protective (e.g. inert) gas.
