Abstract

The novel isoindole derivatives of the formula <IMAGE> in which A denotes alkylene having 2-10 carbon atoms and Z denotes the group -OR or <IMAGE>, R denotes alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, allyl or aralkyl, R1, R2, R3 and R4 independently of one another each denote hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen or trifluoromethyl and R5 and R6 independently of one another each denote hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, alkoxyalkyl, aryl, aralkyl or together denote the group -(CH2)n-, in which n is an integer from 2-7, or with the nitrogen atom connecting them together denote a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring having an oxygen or an optionally alkyl- or hydroxyalkyl-substituted nitrogen atom and R7 and R8 independently of one another each denote hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl, alkoxyalkyl or aralkyl, at least one of the radicals R7 and R8 being other than hydrogen, and their pharmaceutically utilisable acid addition salts, are prepared from phenylglyoxylic acid derivatives of the formula <IMAGE> and diamines of the formula <IMAGE> by reductive amination. The novel isoindole derivatives and their acid addition salts have anorectic action and can be used as appetite suppressants.
