Abstract

1525989 Analyzing a liquid COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 8 July 1976 [9 July 1975] 28382/76 Heading G1A [Also in Division G2] In a device for analyzing a liquid 30 radiation from a light source 32 passes via a heat shield 40, a diaphragm 38 and a lens 36 into a flexible light guide 6, that is connected to one end of a rigid light guide 8, whose other end is intended to be positioned in a liquid to be tested. A further rigid light guide 10, a distance "d" away receives the radiation attenuated by the liquid and directs it to a further flexible light guide, which split up into a number of, separate channels 14, 16 and 18. The radiation from each channel may be analyzed for a different wavelength by employing an interference filter 58 adjusted to the wavelength concerned. The radiation from each channel may pass via a lens 62, an adjustable attenuator 56 and the interference filter 58 to be received by a detector 60 whose output is fed to a signal processing circuit 84. The intensity of the radiation emitted by the source may be monitored by means of another flexible light guide 42 and a detector 46 positioned as shown. The detector 46's output controls the power supply 4. A mechanical arrangement 26 conveys the test tube 28 containing the solution 30 to be tested in such a way that the solution 30 is brought into contact with the optical fibres. A programming device 76 controls the closing of relays by the supply 77 and also acts on relays 78, 80 and 82 to control sending of data to the processing device 84. The rigid light guides may be hollow and contain flexible light guide fibres Fig. 3 (not shown). In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, the rigid light guides 8, 10 project into a conduit 202 through which the liquid to be tested is circulated. In a alternative arrangement Fig. 2 (not shown) similar to the Fig. 1 system the liquid may be supplied to a test container from a series of reservoirs via relay activated valves. The rigid light guides are positioned in the container.
