Abstract
1525599 Metal working lubricant ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO 11 Dec 1975 [20 Dec 1974] 50866/75 Heading C5F A method of metal working comprises maintaining on the metal surface being worked a fluid composition comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, and a minor amount of at least one oil-soluble copolymer having a viscosity average molecular weight in the range from 130,000 to 250,000, said copolymer being derived from the polymerization of ethylene and a heavier olefin selected from terminally unsaturated straight chain monoolefins containing from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, α-phenyl-1-alkenes containing 9 or 10 carbon atoms, 2-norbornene, terminally unsaturated non-conjugated di-olefins containing from 5 to 8 carbon atoms, dicyclopentadiene, 5-methylene-2-norbornene and mixtures thereof, the mole ratio of said ethylene to said heavier olefin being in the range from 1:3 to 3:1, said copolymer being present in said fluid composition in an amount sufficient to inhibit said fluid composition from misting, e.g. at least 0À001% by wt. Copolymers used in the Examples are ethylene/propylene copolymers.
