Abstract
1525438 2,3-Dichloro-1,3-butadiene BAYER AG 6 Oct 1976 [9 Oct 1975] 41447/76 Heading C2C 2,3-Dichloro-1,3-butadiene is obtained by the addition of 0À1-50 wt. per cent of a phasetransfer catalyst which is a quaternary ammonium or phosphonium salt or at least a diorgano substituted sulphonium salt to a mixture of 2,3,4-trichloro-1-butene and an aqueous solution of alkali metal hydroxide, 0À05-10 parts by weight of the catalyst being used per 100 parts by weight of the halobutene, the reaction being conducted at -10 to +10‹ C., without any significant fluctuations, in the presence of O 2 . Preferably a continuation of at least one inhibitor soluble primarily in the monomer phase, e.g. phenothiazine and/or N-nitrosodiphenylamine and at least one inhibitor soluble in the aqueous phase, e.g. diethyl hydroxylamine are present. The molar ratio of butene to alkali metal hydroxide, e.g. NaOH is 1 : 1À05-1À5. The aqueous catalyst solution is preferably 0À5-10 wt. per cent.
