Abstract
1524552 Purifying phosphoric acid HOECHST AG 9 Sept 1975 [4 Oct 1974] 37054/75 Heading C1A A process for purifying wet-processed phosphoric acid containing free sulphuric acid comprises treating the acid in a reaction zone at a temperature of 70 C.-100 C. with a calcium compound, CaSO 4 .¢H 2 O seed crystals, one or more alkali metal compounds, H 4 SiO 4 or a derivative thereof, one or more sulphide compounds and active carbon thereby precipitating the sulphate ions in the form of CaSO 4 .¢H 2 O, removing the suspension so-formed from the reaction zone, recycling a portion of the suspension to the reaction zone; separating the balance of the suspension into purified phosphoric acid and a precipitate; transforming the precipitate into an aqueous suspension containing up to 30 wt. per cent of phosphoric acid and converting the CaSO 4 .¢H 2 O in said suspension at 20-70 degrees into CaSO 4 .2H 2 O; separating the aqueous phase of the suspension from the solid matter therein, and water-washing the solid matter; recycling a proportion of the aqueous phase so separated, and a proportion of the wash water, for use in suspending and converting CaSO 4 .¢H 2 O as aforementioned; and combining the balance of the aqueous phase and wash water with the said purified phosphoric acid.
