Abstract
1524316 Coated optical fibre GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 10 June 1977 [11 March 1976] 09762/76 Heading B2E [Also in Division G2] A vitreous optical fibre waveguide, e.g. of silica or silica clad silica is provided with three coats of plastics material of specified thicknesses and elastic moduli. The first coat may be polyurethane optionally containing a filler, e.g. carbon, silica or titania, the second coat may be a silicone and the third coat may be of polyurethane, nylon or a fluorocarbon, e.g. a polyvinylidene fluoride copolymer. The coatings may be applied from solutions and are adjusted in thickness, e.g. by means of felt pads.
