Abstract

152,426. Johnson, W. P., and Schofield, H. July 14, 1919. Regulating.-Relates to apparatus for mixing air and gas of the type in which the quantity and the composition of the mixture are varied by angular and axial adjustments of a cylindrical throttle valve 20 having peripheral ports 24, 25 for the inlet of gas and air respectively and a port 26 for the outlet of the mixture. According to the invention, the air-inlet port 25 is of the same axial length as the air-inlet port 13 in the casing, whilst the gas-inlet port 24 is shorter and the mixture-outlet port 26 longer than the co-operating ports 11, 15 in the casing by an amount such that these ports are not throttled by the axial adjustment of the valve, and a spring 23 is arranged between one end of the valve and the casing to hold the valve towards one extreme position. In the arrangement shown, there are four similar air ports 25 in the valve. The angular adjustment of the valve for varying the quantity of mixture is effected by an arm 32 on the valve spindle, and the axial adjustment for varying the area of the air ports relatively to the areas of the gas and mixture ports is effected by turning a nut 30 which works over graduations on the spindle.
