Abstract

1523808 Controlling light SHARP KK [trading as SHARP CORP] 2 July 1976 [3 July 1975 15 Oct 1975] 27680/76 Heading G2F [Also in Division C4] In an electro-optic liquid crystal cell in which the liquid crystal material contains a quaternary ammonium or quaternized nitrogen containing heterocyclic salt of an organic acid to enhance its dynamic scattering and/or quiescent aligning properties, the quiescent molecular alignment is further enhanced by coating an electrode adjacent the liquid crystal material with a film of SiO x (O < x # 2) and/or MgF 2 . The film thickness is usually 1000Š or less, preferably less than 500Š and normally 100-200Š.
