Abstract

In order to prepare stable, aqueous emulsions of water-insoluble substances having low to medium viscosities, i.e. such having dynamic viscosities at temperatures between 15 and 32 DEG C of from 20 to 10,000 cP, a mixture of from 2 to 30% by weight of emulsifier - based on water-insoluble substance - and from 2 to 25% by weight of water - based on water-insoluble substance - is introduced as an initial charge. It is essential at this point that the amount of water is from 0.4 to 1.7 times the amount of emulsifier. The water-insoluble substance or the mixture of such substances is now slowly added stepwise, and the mixture during the addition of the water-insoluble substance or substances is subjected to shearing forces. It is possible in the process to prepare, in a first stage, a pre-emulsion from part of the water-insoluble substance and the entire remaining components of the mixture, and then to admix, in a second stage, the remainder of the water-insoluble substance.
