Abstract

1523294 Dyeing leather SANDOZ Ltd 8 Sept 1975 [10 Sept 1974] 36811/75 Heading D1B Chrome-tanned or re-tanned leather is treated prior to dyeing or during dyeing with a levelling agent of formula: in which R 1 is a C 12-24 alkyl radical, R 2 is C 2-4 alkylene, the R 3 S independently are -C 2 H 4 -O- or -C 3 H 6 -O-, and the sum of X 1 +X 2 +X 3 is 10 to 60, the dyes employed being a mixture of anionic and/or direct dyes which may have differing degrees of affinity for the leather. Preferably 0.5 to 5% by weight based on the shared weight of the leather, of levelling agent is used, which levelling agent may be the condensation product of aminopropyl- or aminoethyl-behenylamine, aminopropyl- or aminoethyl - myristylamine, aminopropyl- or aminoethyl - stearylamine with ethylene oxide in a mol ratio of approximately 1:30.
