Abstract

152,306. Schmidt, K. H. Oct. 8, 1919, [Convention date]. Pump-actuating mechanism.-A tyre pump is driven from a pulley mounted in bearings on the crank-shaft and connected by a friction clutch with the driving- shaft, declutching being effected by a cam-surface adapted to press on the crank-disk and displace the crank-shaft against spring pressure; the connecting- rod is caused to slide on the gudgeon pin during clutching and declutching. The packing-ring on the piston is pressed against the cylinder by a steel collar, to prevent the passage of oil. As shown, the piston with its gudgeon pin p is actuated by the connecting-rod o from a crank-shaft z driven by a shaft i mounted in an extension of the crank case and connected with the inner member f of a friction clutch which is pressed by a spring against the outer member formed by the belt pulley h. The clutch is disengaged by a cam on a transverse shaft k which displaces the shaft i axially; the connecting-rod o is also displaced on the gudgeon pin, its movement being assisted by a spring q. The pump is provided with an outlet ball valve and with inlet ports b which are opened when the piston reaches its lowest position. The leather packing collar e of the piston is pressed outwards by a steel collar x.
