Abstract

1522912 Multiplexing INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 8 Feb 1977 [13 Feb 1976] 5100/77 Heading H4M In a multiplex signal transmission arrangement main and auxiliary input signals are sampled and multiplexed by the multiplexer directly to form a resultant bit stream so that no additional equipment, such as a buffer register and associated logic circuitry, is required for the insertion of the auxiliary signals into the bit stream. As shown, multiplex signal transmission equipment comprises a plurality of main signal input channels mch1-mch32; a signal output channel T19; a clock CL, DIV1-4, generating a plurality of sampling pulse trains; a multiplexer MC controlled by said clock to sample a main input signal on each of said input channels using one of said pulse trains having a frequency related to the frequency of the input signal, the thus sampled signals being supplied in a multiplex fashion to the output channel together with auxiliary signals ach1-ach32 which are sampled by the multiplexer. This latter sampling operation is performed by pulses which are so distributed among the pulses belonging to a set of at least two sampling pulse trains by which the main input signals of a set of at least two main input signals are sampled at a same frequency that the pulses of said sampling pulse trains of said set are mutually interleaved and mutually equidistant. The way in which this is effected is described in detail with reference to Figs. 3 to 8 (not shown), and a suitable receiver for the multiplexed signal is described with reference to Figs. 9 to 12 (not shown).
