Abstract

1522822 Automatic controi of DC motors GENERAL MOTORS Ltd 22 Sept 1976 [25 Sept 1975] 39278/75 Heading H2L Two D.C. motors driving respective wiper arm and blade assemblies of a vehicle windscreen wiper system are controlled by the synchronizing circuit described with reference to Fig. 1 of Specification 1,522,523, but the sequences of similar electrical pulses are generated in one of the following ways: (a) a photoelectric system in which the light source (100) and sensor (102) are aligned with the apertures (98) in the motor armature (96) formed by the space in each armature slot above the windings (101), Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown); (b) a Hall Effect device (110) aligned with the castellated periphery (106) of the motor armature (96) to detect the magnetic variations produced by the poles, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown). These variations may be strengthened by providing a magnet in each aperture around the periphery.
