Abstract

An annular cooling tube (1) is to be embedded in the cylinder liner (7). For this purpose, radially extending cooling-water inlet and outlet branches are welded to the cooling tube (1) and supporting webs (4) are secured along the entire circumference. These project beyond a surface which limits the cylinder liner to be produced. A stabilising ring (6) lying to the outside of the surface bounding the cylinder liner and surrounding the ends of the supporting webs is attached to the supporting webs (4). This ring is inserted into a core box and compacted with the core sand surrounding it to form the core. After the removal of the core (8) from the core box, the unit thereby obtained is placed in a casting mould (9) provided for the casting of the cylinder liner and the mould is then filled. Finally, the cylinder liner is removed from the mould (9) and those parts of the supporting webs (4) which project beyond the boundary surface are removed together with the stabilising ring (6). The process prevents unwanted shifting of the cooling tube during the pouring process. <IMAGE>
