Abstract

1522316 Transverse-flow blowers INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 7 Oct 1975 [10 Oct 1974] 40979/75 Heading F1C A transverse-flow blower comprises a cylindrical bladed rotor 1 and a casing including a spiral baffle plate 3, a vortex former 4 and side parts 5 at least partially enclosing the rotor ends, a deflecting surface 12 of limited width being provided on the inner surface of the baffle plate near an end of the rotor to act as a spoiler whereby the tendency to reduced or even reversed flow in this region is reduced. The surface 12, together with a sharp edge 13, may be afforded by a tongue stamped out of the baffle plate 3 and bent up to an angle α of about 30 to 90 degrees. Instead, a bulge, rib or crease or a separate angular member may be provided. The width l, height h and distance t may be 10 to 40%, 3 to 6% and 30 to 80% respectively of the rotor diameter. As shown, an additional deflecting surface 14 with a spoiler edge 15 extending nearly along the entire width of the blower outlet may be provided downstream of the deflecting surfaces 12.
