Abstract

1521923 Hot water cylinders KONINKLIJKE METAALWARENFABRIEKEN DAALDEROP BV 20 Feb 1976 (21 Feb 1975] 06733/76 Heading F4A [Also in Division B3] A method of making a boiler drum comprises fitting metal (e.g. steel) outer shells A, B around a plastics (e.g. polypropylene) inner tank 2 and welding the joint between the outer shells, these being formed, before welding, a bulge 4 in the inner tank and/or outer shells adjacent the weld 3 to form an insulating space to prevent the welding heat damaging the inner plastics tank 2. The space may be filled with a heat insulating material, (e.g. asbestos). At the opening into the drum the space between the outer shell and inner tank is sealed by a rubber gasket 6, or, Fig. 2 (not shown) a metal washer (20) compressing a packing (21). There may be a heating element 18 between the inner tank and outer shell to heat the space therebetween to reduce the temperature gradient across the inner tank wall 2 to minimize diffusion of gases across wall 2.
