Abstract

1521087 Reflecting objectives BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP Ltd 20 Sept 1976 [16 Oct 1975] 42386/75 Heading G2J An electromagnetic radiation imaging apparatus comprises concave and convex reflecting surfaces (mirrors 2 and 1) which face each other and are coaxially mutually spaced to leave an annular radiation entrance whereby light from a distant object is reflected first by the convex and then by the concave surface to form a real image. The image may be between the reflectors, see Fig. 1; or may be behind the convex reflector (a central aperture being provided for passage of the rays); or may be behind the concave reflector (a central aperture being left for the passage of the rays and an auxilliary mirror being provided between the curved mirrors). The image may be observed via an eye-piece, or recorded on film, or impinged on a T.V. camera, or be traversed (scanned) by an array of sensors. The device is of particular use for surveillance of the horizon.
