Abstract
1520884 HVDC power transmission NI INST POSTOYAN TOKA 22 July 1975 30530/75 Heading H2F A method of controlling an A.C.-D.C. converter substation divided into two halves, each half including a plurality of bridge circuits for feeding a D.C. transmission line of one polarity, comprising determining the number of bridge circuits which are to be excluded from operation (e.g. for maintenance), selecting, according to the predetermined power requirement a sequence of possible bridge circuit combinations arranged in order of increasing transmission power loss, selecting the first combination in said order which contains no excluded bridge circuit and controlling the current drawn by each bridge circuit according to a predetermined relationship between the predetermined power requirement and a selected bridge circuit combination whereby to minimize the power loss of the system. The specification describes a substation having up to four bridges in each half and explains how the optimum number of bridges in each half can be selected so as to give the minimum transmission power loss in the system for a given power transmission requirement.
