1520837 Petzval objective RANK ORGANISATION Ltd 9 March 1977 [1 June 1976] 22653/76 Heading G2J A Petzval type objective, for use in a sighting device, comprises two positive lens groups separated by a substantial air space, wherein the front lens group, R 1 - R 6 includes firstly a front lens combination, R 1 - R4 of relatively longer focal length, primarily providing aberration correction, and secondly a meniscal element R 5 , R6 of relatively shorter focal length, and wherein the rear lens group R 7 - R 11 includes a front compound component R 7 - R 9 and a rear meniscal element R 10 , R 11 , the front compound component R 7 - R9 being of greater refracting power than the meniscal element R 10 , R 11 . A field flattening lens R 12 , R 13 and an axially movable graticule are provided.
